Thoughts on Social Media Part #2

Social Media.

Twitter, Facebook, Google+, Goodreads, Instagram, Tumblr…my god…There really are a lot of them today aren’t there? I still remember waiting for the dial up back in 1996 on our Tandy 1000 that accepted floppy discs. Did your brain just explode with nostalgia? LOL Mine did.

It seems such a waste to just sign on and blast “Buy my book” to the masses. Ugh! I hate that! I’ll be honest with you, I don’t read. I always think, “I should be writing my own! Not reading someone elses!” I feel too guilty to read. When I do read, it takes a lot for me to sit down and apply myself. And I work all day on marketing, writing, and publication that reading is just part of my job. It isn’t fun anymore. Last book I read was…it was an excellent book. Here is the link. I left a 5 star review.

So at night, when I am with my husband and children, I watch anime or TV. Currently, my husband and I are watching Friends on DVD (he has never seen it). We change it out for One Piece, Hunter X Hunter, and Naruto Shippuden. We also watch The Walking Dead on DVD.

I have such a need to talk to you this morning, dear reader. I’ve grown quite fond of talking with you. You listen so well, but I wish you would talk back. I’d love to hear your thoughts. I value your opinion. I’m feeling sentimental this morning. Social Media…right. I have a point. Forgive my exploratory monologue.

Social Media can be so much more than what it is. Its so loud, no one is being heard. I buy certain books because I like the author, I like the cover, or I like the blurb that much. And you know what? Out of all the Twittering I’ve done, I have only liked two books enough to say, Ooooh! Now that looks GOOD! What books are they?

These two

Now, I will be the first to tell you that there are hundreds of other books I saw that were just as good, but I knew the authors first in every other circumstance so my judgement is biased. These two I saw before I knew the author and I went WOW! for the book and with no sense of loyalty to the authors.

I don’t want Dolor and Shadow to be just another book blasted into the masses. Yes, I go through the motions. I do the basic advertizing, but Dolor and Shadow will sell itself…or it won’t. If it doesn’t, well then…I haven’t done my job have I? I don’t even want to touch my reviews. I hate the concept of reviews. I may or may not read mine. I really don’t care if people write them. What I care about is only this, “Did I write a good enough story that those who read it will tell their friends?” That is my goal. For Dolor and Shadow to be so good that readers put it down and say, “Oh my god you have GOT to read this!” to everyone they know. THAT is how books sell. Not reviews or marketing. You, my precious, precious reader. Your word, your vouch of honor that my book is good. THAT is what sells books. Authors owe everything to readers. And whether or not you’ll vouch for my written word…well…*kindly smiles* that’s on me, now isn’t it? Have I written a good enough story? Only time will tell. Let’s see, shall we?

Biographical Info... What you seek is my Story. Every Soul is a "Blurb" as one would read on the back of the book. But can people be "unwrapped" so easily? Most importantly, why try? I have long since learned to preserve the Savory that comes with Discovery. Learning of another Soul is a Journey. It is an Exploration. And it does not do the Soul Justice to try and condense a Soul Journey into a Bio.
